Room Review: The Surf Club Hotel, Dewey Beach, Thursday, July 15, 2010







The esposa and I traveled down for three nights (Thurs at 200 a night, Fri at 250 a night, and Sat for another 0--with ten percent off all three nights for booking more than two nights) in the middle of July, 2010, and got in late Thursday to have two full beach-days. K/Cathy, the front desk clerk, was very helpful as we changed our reservations (adding Thursday), and when we checked-in and throughout the stay. Aside from the beachfront location, the staff is the best quality of this place, with the minor exception of one day's housekeeping, when we had guests for the day and needed extra towels and bathroom items (why so many hotels are cheap with these, I'll never know) and tipped five bucks a day and never got what was promised, but this was, as I say, minor and only occurred one time. The rooms are clean, kept-up nice enough, but overall, average and filled with dated amenities. Each room has the same amenities, as the place is a time-share/fractional ownership condo hotel that rents out individually owned rooms equitably. This financial arrangement will likely make updating the rooms inconvenient, which is unfortunate because that is what is most needed right now, especially at this price-point. The biggest thing you'll notice is the full-sized murphy bed, which has a comfortable mattress and, when in the up position, saves precious floor space. It's a unique decision, design-wise. Our Tropical paradise is a brand new condo resort consisting of 4 homes in a gated secure environment one minute walk to the ocean and 5 minute walk to the Bahia del Sol Beach front Hotel. Offering approx 1600 sq ft on two floors, 2 bedrooms 2 baths. Each bedroom offers a private sundeck where you can pass the time away on the day beds. The master bedrooms offers floor to ceiling 14 feet high double sliding glass doors, wake up to the sounds of the ocean, howler monkeys and green parrots. The main floor features floor to ceiling windows open to the gardens, white porcelain tiles, the fully equipped kitchen features granite counter top and a breakfast bar and laundry facilities . Our private patio and gardens are furnished with large teak dinning room table and a 4pc sectional sofa and gas barbecue all great for dining or lounging. The communal rancho is great for meeting up with visiting guests and sharing stories of the days events. Cristal clear waters in our pool and spa, sundeck with over stuffed pillows. Iguanas, geckos, butterflies, hummingbirds are all found within our very secured walled grounds. My favourite past time each morning-----A fresh cup of Costa Rican coffee while walking on the meandering elevated boardwalk through the gardens, I'm always amazed with the large varieties of tropical flowers.
